Sans oublier une brève présentation d'un nouveau venu dans notre jazzothèque, le tuba-iste Ray Draper ; et une pause soul jazz teintée d'orgue Hammond avec Johnny Smith et Larry Young. Une sélection presque totalement issue des disques de l'excellent label "Prestige".

# Description /[Steph] Rien ne vaut une petite émission à l'ancienne parfois, ce soir je vous ai concocté une sélection autour des batteurs, ce n'est pas la première, ni dernière fois que ça arrive.
Pour commencer Shelly Manne & His Men, ensuite un petit Art Taylor tout en calypso, avec le conguero Carlos "Patato" Valdez, puis une petite leçon d'euphonium avec Bernard Mc Kinney sur l'album "Ready For Freddie" de Mr Hubbard. Enfin le bon vieil indispensable version Mâtin Jazz, celui qui n'est pas trop connu mais qui en jette en société. Attention, là c'est du serieux avec Duke Pearson, pianiste arrangeur qui oeuvra chez Blue Note dès le début des années 60.
"The Right Touch" a tout de l'Indispensable, 6 compositions variées et gorgées de groove, en octet, avec une équipe hors paire de cinq souffleurs et le fameux - et trop méconnu - Grady Tate à la batterie.
La composition "Los malos hombres" vaut à elle seule l'acquisition de cette perle d'album, qui, outre le jeu et le talent de composition du pianiste, révèle la qualité d'arrangeur de Duke Pearson. J'avais prévu de finir par l'inévitable Art Blakey, mais Thom fini en feu d'artifice avec Idris Muhammad, alors ce sera pour la semaine prochaine. Un petit mot sur Ferdinand Doumerc : je ne sais pas quand est ce qu'il repassera avec La Tarentule, mais en attendant réservez votre fin de mois pour la Face Cachée Des Sous Bois, ils passent au Mandala. Ne les ratez pas sinon il faudra attendre 6 mois ou 1 an pour les revoir !

Un
pur moment de plaisir passé avec La Tarentule venue tisser sa toile à la
Salle Bleue, niche appropriée pour cette ultime formation. Le décor est
posé, l'ambiance est à son comble quand les musiciens montent sur scène
pour nous servir 1h30 de pur jazz funk, rappel compris. Un festival de
compositions où se croisent diverses inspirations, du hard bop
traditionnel à l'acid jazz le plus smooth possible. Il faut dire que,
même connaissant le très bon niveau musical de cette bande de collègues,
on est rapidement surpris par qualité de la mise en place du sextet,
avec en guest le (bluffant) guitariste Jérôme Barde. Certains titres
sont joués d'affilée, on en prend plein les oreilles avec l'enchainement
des solis des un et des autres ; notamment Rémi Leclerc, enflammant son
moog, backé par les experts en rythmiques M. Delporte et F. Petitprez.
Mais c'est toujours l'excellent Ferdinand Doumerc qui mène la danse,
nous faisant prendre de l'altitude jusqu'à en être énivré par le son de
ses saxs, tantôt ténor, tantôt alto, et de sa flûte qui nous a scotché
sur le morceau "Faux Fakir", que vous pouvez écouter juste en dessous.
